Thursday Club outing to The Great Tapestry of Scotland

On 28th May the Thursday Club went by train around 10 o’clock to visit The Great Tapestry of Scotland in Galashiels.  Everyone was very impressed when they saw the tapestries and we had a really enjoyable visit. Some of the Craft Group on the trip had a bonus of finding a fantastic wool shop beside the museum and some purchases were made. I’m assuming we can expect some items for the Christmas Fayre.

My favourite panel was this one of a man called Thomas Braidwood who opened the first Deaf and Dumb School in the Dumbiedykes area. He also instigated the beginnings of sign language. This was especially poignant for me as we lived in that area many years ago not knowing that in the future my grandson would be deaf and I would have to learn sign language.
